My favorite history class was HIST 301- The Seminar in Environmental History. I took this course with Professor Campbell and instantly fell in love with environmental history. This was an area of history that I did not know about prior to this course, but I loved it so much it’s now my major concentration. This course focused specifically on islands and coastlines, where we studied these areas as examples of environmental history. We covered so many different topics: from Norse exploration to modern day concerns over climate change. For our final project, I wrote about the Florida Keys and enjoyed the project so much that I am now doing an honors thesis over it. I recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn more about the subject of environmental history and the ways in which it can help you understand the world around us!
