I chose Bucknell because it felt like I would find a genuine community here through the liberal arts focus, small class sizes, connections with professors, and more. As a history major, I have learned how to think critically for myself, learning not from history textbooks but through analyzing primary sources and engaging in classroom debates. Outside of the classroom, my history major has granted me opportunities I never thought possible, from working as an archival research assistant to helping the department hire new professors to conducting my own research for an honors thesis in History. The tight-knit community of Bucknell History has given me the academic experience I was looking for as a prospective student, and I am so grateful for all that I have learned thus far.
The Humanities Fellowship is awarded to three exceptional members of the rising junior class who demonstrate high academic achievement in the Humanities, active and enthusiastic intellectual engagement, and positive leadership within the classroom and the Bucknell Humanities Center. In addition to serving as ambassadors for the humanities among their peers, the Fellows also commit to producing a work of independent research in their senior year and help lead the Student Humanities Council in organizing programming events throughout the year. Funding for these fellowships is provided by
Provost Elisabeth Mermann-Jozwiak.
