What our Graduates are Saying

“The History Department, specifically its amazing professors, has given me the tools necessary to think critically across disciplines. I’ve learned so much from every History course I’ve taken here at Bucknell, and couldn’t imagine what my experience would have been like without them.”

“The best part about my time as a history major was the way that professors in the department were always so willing to talk in class and have discussions with students and let students explore what they were interested in.”

“History has always been a passion of mine for as long as I remember, and this is why I applied to Bucknell as a history major. From the class sizes to the availability of professors, I have been able to learn so much. The professors are all amazing and so insightful! The most unique thing is that professors are more like peers who you build deep bonds with, rather than being unreachable lecturers. Also, being able to help run the History Club has been a blast! I wouldn’t change this major for anything in the world!”

“My favorite part of being a history major at Bucknell was how the professors went beyond simply teaching the past—they challenged us to think critically about the world around us. They helped us develop a deeper understanding of how historical events and decisions continue to shape the present. We were encouraged to explore areas of history we were passionate about, while also being pushed to step outside our comfort zones and engage with unfamiliar topics. Through in-class discussions, reading assignments, and writing papers, I grew into a more confident speaker, writer, and critical thinker.”

“I loved studying history because the department is filled with the kindest, most dedicated and knowledgeable professors. Every single class I took, I could feel each professor’s passion about their areas of research or interest and that fueled my own interest. Each semester I found that many of my class topics overlapped with one another and that was a real joy. Furthermore, having doubled majored in Literary Studies, I also found that he two majors blended very well together. My history classes often provided me with historical context for most of the literature that I read, which provided me with a deeper understanding of each author’s intent and many of the conflicts/plot points occurring in the books.”
